Sermorelin was approved by the FDA in 1997 as Geref and discontinued in 2008. No FDA-approved sermorelin product is currently marketed in the United States. Because no approved product is commercially available, sermorelin may be compounded under section 503A pursuant to a patient-specific prescription.

Sermorelin is not sold for research use and is not available for direct purchase. It is dispensed only following a clinical consultation, pursuant to a prescription, and filled by a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy. Preparations available today are compounded and are not FDA-approved products.

Prescription therapies are dispensed by a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy, which fills patient-specific prescriptions only and is not permitted to dispense medications for office use.

This compounded product has not been reviewed, approved, or evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration for safety and effectiveness.
